Data Center Networking

Data Center Networking

Data Center Networking has several main criteria for support device (server/VM, storage, etc) in the data center :

1. Availability

Must be able to support devices in the data center which work continuously, despite the company is running normally or experiencing the problem. Data centers should approach zero-failure as close as possible for all components.

2. Scalability dan Flexibility

Data center networks must be able to adapt to rapid technological growth, if there is a change in service on the server/storage, the network within the data center must be able to adjust.

3. Security

Data Center Network not only has to support availability and rapid technological changes in a data center but also the security, as a data center stores various asset of a company.

In addition to the criteria listed above, it is also essential for companies to have data center technologies which are capable of supporting network devices in the data center.

Data Center Technologies

Some of the technologies which are capable for support data center :

1. VXLAN (Virtual Extensible LAN)

VXLAN is a network encapsulation mechanism virtual overlay tunnels over a physical layer 2/3 underlay network for L2 network connectivity and multi-tenancy. This allows virtual machines on different networks to communicate as if they are in the same layer 2 subnets.

2. IRF (Intelligent Resilient Framework)

IRF is essentially a virtual stacking technology that allows multiple switches to be managed and operate as a single large virtual switch. This allows IT departments to cut down the complexity of network management.

By fulfilling the three main criteria of data center networking and utilizing data center technology, companies will be able to increase its business revenue. Additionally, with IRF and VXLAN companies can enjoy the increased network reliability, performance, availability, and reduced operational complexity.
