The mushrooming of logistics companies in Indonesia as a positive impact of online shopping trends, turns out to be not accompanied by adequate protection. There are still many cyber security logistics companies that are still vulnerable to countering cyber attacks that continue to increase with increasingly sophisticated techniques.
Quoting Bisnis.com, Supply Chain Indonesia’s senior consultant, Zaroni explained, there are three important things that logistics companies must do regarding cybersecurity, namely prevention, assessment, and recovery. These three things need to be considered to ensure adequate cyber security risk mitigation, especially logistics service providers rely heavily on IT-based management systems.
In other words, the cyber security of logistics companies that are starting to automate their work systems must be improved, including protecting customer data, improving network connections, and preventing hacker attacks. So, what is an adequate cyber security system to be implemented by logistics and transportation companies? Check out the full presentation below.
Conditions of Logistics and Transportation Companies in Indonesia

Supply Chain Indonesia (SCI) describes a number of problems currently faced by logistics and transportation companies in Indonesia. Quoting Bisnis.com, a number of issues in question are related to infrastructure, security threats, facilities, to regulations.
Regarding cybersecurity, as mentioned above, logistics companies can start by taking precautions. This can be done by selecting platforms and types of supporting IT such as warehouse management systems, freight management systems, and enterprise resource planning whose security has been tested.
Meanwhile, from the hardware side, make sure the logistics company uses tools that support server backups and Disaster Recovery (DR) to ensure data availability. From the HR side, training is needed to shape behavior and culture to maintain security by changing passwords regularly and sharing data safely.
The second step that needs to be taken by a logistics company is to evaluate the IT system on a regular basis. Testing is carried out to ensure the logistics company’s IT system can operate safely and properly.
Third, if there has been a breach in the IT system, the logistics company must be able to carry out recovery procedures as a corrective action.
Cybersecurity of Logistics and Transportation Companies Still Vulnerable

Not just a figment of imagination, the vulnerability of the logistics company’s security system had become a nightmare for Transnet. The South African-owned rail, port and pipeline company was reportedly the target of hackers which paralyzed its operations at container terminals in Durban, Ngqura, Port Elizabeth and Capetown.
According to the Blomberg News report, citing notes sent by Transnet to customers, the company experienced cyber attacks, security intrusions, and sabotage that disrupted TPT’s normal processes and functions or damaged equipment and information.
A week before it was found to be the target of hackers, the company which was founded in 1991 had experienced disturbances in its IT network. However, at that time the Transnet had identified and isolated the source of the disturbance.
However, the problems don’t stop there. Technical problems continued until the company declared a force majeure status due to unforeseen circumstances. Transnet claims to have taken various existing and reasonable mitigation measures to limit the impact of the disturbance.
It is not impossible for Transnet to experience what happened to logistics and transportation companies in Indonesia. Given that currently cyber attacks continue to develop increasingly sophisticated, along with technology and techniques that are no less formidable.
For this reason, logistics and transportation companies need endpoint protection to ensure security from cyber attacks. Endpoint protection is a cybersecurity method that protects devices used for business operations, such as desktops, laptops, IoT devices, and devices that communicate with other central networks.
