Pros of BYOD for companies
- Have time efficiency in adapting
Using your own device can reduce adaptation time to new devices, not everyone can adapt quickly to using new devices that they have never used, such as using an iPhone smartphone and facilitated by an Android smartphone in the office.
- Massive cost savings
By opening quite a lot of massive vacancies, it can be difficult for companies to buy new devices for new employees.
- Save on maintenance costs
As a company that facilitates devices for each employee, the company must be responsible for maintenance and updates so that each device is kept up to date.
- Always up to date
Already most people have up to date facilities, using the BYOD system indirectly keeps companies using new devices.
Cons of BYOD for companies
- Not all employees have up to date devices
Not all employees necessarily have up to date devices, therefore the company must be able to adapt to the devices owned by these employees or facilitate your employees with company devices.
- Low level of security
It is possible that not all employee-owned devices have a good protection system that can reduce the security of important company data that is on employee devices.
- There was a problem to manage internal access for employees who quit
Companies will find it difficult to remove or block access for employees who have retired or been terminated because the devices they use are personal, which are places where personal data is stored.
- Difficulty in changing phone numbers
Employees must have used their personal number to be used as a contact person or as customer service. But if the employee quits, it will be difficult for the company because it needs to collect the telephone number or inform again that the telephone number is no longer used.
Pros BYOD for Employees
- Have the freedom to browse
Employees can comfortably browse because they use their own devices without the need to feel watched.
- Can use the device freely
With the BYOD policy, employees will feel full ownership of their device and can use it to do other things.
Cons BYOD for employees
- Distribution of issued pulses
Calculating the distribution of pulses and quotas is quite difficult when using personal devices, such as being someone who is directly related to social media.
- Limited memory / space distribution
By using their personal devices, employees can do their work wherever and whenever, but with lots of company data and your personal data, it can annoy you because you have limited space.
- Low level of privacy
Has a low level of privacy because the device is personal to communicate anything about work. This does not rule out the possibility for customers to call you outside of working hours.
- The cost of treatment is borne personally
The company obviously will not pay for the maintenance of devices that do not belong to the company, including your personal devices that are used for work. Therefore maintenance costs must be prepared by the owner of the device.
Although indeed BYOD has quite a lot of cons for the company and the employees themselves, starting from a security perspective and from the policy itself. But the BYOD policy is still used and is an option for companies to increase employee productivity and reduce additional costs for buying new devices.
